Continuous rotary processes that require a chemical alteration of the raw feed to the finished product use rotary kilns. Normally chemical changes in rotary processes require high temperatures (>2000 F) to achieve the desired material characteristics.  Most kilns are direct fired with the flow of feed and air occurring in opposite directions called counter flow. However, some kiln systems outside normal parameters. Rotary kilns come in a multitude of forms such as wet kilns, dry kilns, precalciner kilns, etc. Rotary kilns are normally refractory lined to enhance radiation heat transfer from the radiant flame or gases to the material bed. Optimus Solutions offers audits and engineering consultation on any process related problem. Normally an onsite audit will encompass measurements which will then be fed to a mass and energy balance evaluation to pinpoint the possible problem. Common problems related to process can be broken into four types related to emissions/EPA compliance, fuel efficiency, better production, and increase in quality.

• Balance of airflow, combustion, and materials going in and out of the rotary kiln.

-Why is it important

• This is a diagnostic service that will give insight on how the kiln is functioning and show any problems related to emissions, fuel consumption, production, and quality.

• Process Evaluation

   • Evaluation on the chemistry inside the rotary kiln. 

-Why is it important

   • A better understanding of what is going into and out of the kiln will shed light on the right path to a more productive system.
